Alfama is the oldest district of Lisbon, spreading on the slope between the Saint George’s Castle and the river Tejo. The name Alfama comes from the Arabic, meaning fountains or baths. It contains many important historical attractions, old narrow streets with many Fado bars and restaurants. The great  Earthquake (1755) didn’t destroy Alfama, which has remained a picturesque labyrinth: Narrow streets and small squares. Views are breathtaking… Explore it with me 😉
