A Carioca, EST. 1936

Portugal has a long tradition in coffee and besides Italy and Turkey, in Europe there’s no place to have a short strong espresso like in Portugal. Our colonial past has brought us lots of exotic products, coffee was one of them. There’s coffee from Timor, in distant Asia, from South America like the Brazilian and Africa: Angola, the islands of Cape Verde and São Tomé e Principe of course. A Carioca is open since 1936, and entering this store is stepping into the 1920′s. With its Art Deco interior, the intense aromas of the specialty coffees, teas, and chocolates with different origins are amazing. Ask for help if you can’t choose between Arabica and Robusta. Also a good place to shop some chocolates and teas too, located just two steps from the Camões square in the heart of Lisbon.
